Solid Brass

Reggio's solid brass grilles are hand cast of fine solid brass, then brushed to a low-luster finish and lacquered to retard tarnishing. Cast Iron

Reggio's ultra durable cast iron grilles and registers are our original product offering; back in 1978 when Mike Reggio couldn't find high quality cast iron floor registers for his historic home, he decided to make them! Almost 40 years later, Reggio's cast iron grilles still set the standard for craftsmanship. The baked on powder coat finish provides extra protection and a rich, low luster finish that lasts. Cast iron is an excellent material for high traffic areas, or anywhere strength and durability is required, and provides the authentic look of antique registers.

Aluminum

Aluminum registers are lightweight, rust-proof (making them a superior choice for bathrooms and other damp environments – indoors or out) and strong enough to provide years of service without warping or cracking. We guarantee it! How to Measure

Inside Measurements

If this is a replacement, lift out the old vent cover and measure the opening in your floor, wall or ceiling.

If you're working on a new construction, simply measure the opening in your floor, wall or ceiling.

The width and length of your opening should match the width and length of the inside measurements of the grille.

Underside Lip

When do you need an underside lip?

If the grille is being used for a floor installation, then you may choose an Underside Lip to hold the grille in place. If you choose it without an Underside Lip for floor installation, then you need to either (1) recess the grille into the floor so it’s flush with the floor or (2) get the grille with mounting holes to hold it in place.

If you choose an Underside Lip for a floor installation, do you still need mounting holes?

If you choose a grille with an Underside Lip, you may still want mounting holes. In high traffic areas, mounting holes keep the grille securely in place. Mounting holes also deter children from lifting or removing the grille from its opening. Mounting holes are not required for grilles with an Underside Lip (for floor installation), but may be prefered.

When is an Underside Lip for floor installation not recommended?

An Underside Lip is not recommended when your opening is not evenly cut, as an Underside Lip may not fit.

Mounting Holes

Screw mounting is required for wall or ceiling installations, but is optional for floor installations. There is no difference in the price.

Steel grilles are flat and need screw holes for mounting in floors.

When you choose to have holes in your grille, you are indicating you desire your grilles to come with holes and screws ready for mounting.

Grilles with no holes are simply placed on the floor over your vent. While not a tight fit, the flange on the back of all Scroll Design grilles holds them in place.

Louvers

Our louver assemblies are designed to fit behind our grilles to control air flow and increase heating and cooling efficiency. Mounted independently of the grille, they are opened and closed with the provided key. In some cases, you may have to remove the grille to adjust louvers. Allow 2 5/16" clearance for louvers behind grille. Foam strips for installation included with each louver.

Note: Louvers are designed to regulate the amount of airflow, not the direction of airflow.

Dampers

Dampers can be attached to the back of our wood grilles. Each damper is fully adjustable and can be easily attached to any standard size grille.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a grille and a register?

A register is a complete unit with a cast iron louver attached to allow control over the flow of air. If you don't see a register in the size you need simply combine a louver assembly and grille to create your own custom register.

What do you mean when it says with holes or without holes?

The reference to holes refers to the screw holes for mounting the grille. When installing into a wall or ceiling you need screw holes, while with a floor application it's your preference. Many customers use screw holes when installing on carpet because the carpet is often too thick and the lip of the grille doesn't catch in the opening. Other customers use screw holes to prevent children from lifting the grille out of the opening.

If the inside measurement says 10" x 4" do I cut my hole 10" x 4"?

Yes. If the inside measurement on the grille you're looking at is listed as 10"x 4" you can cut your hole 10"x 4" and the lip will fit into your opening. For more information about measuring please see our How to Measure page.

What is the advantage of using aluminum versus cast iron?

Aluminum grilles are most often used in wall or ceiling applications because they are lighter in weight. Aluminum grilles are also rustproof and therefore perform better in moist locations. Also due to their lighter gray color, Aluminum grilles are easier to paint to match the surrounding environment.

How long will it take to receive my order? Can I get expedited shipping and how much will it cost?

Shipping depends on your location in relation to Leominster, Massachusetts. Approximate delivery time is anywhere from 2-7 business days. Orders can be upgraded to UPS Next Day, 2nd Day or 3 Day Air to ensure faster delivery. Please contact us for upgraded shipping prices or for the status of your order.

Are your grilles flat? What is the thickness of your grilles?

Our grilles are manufactured in different ways. All of our scroll designs and some of our square designs are castings made with a lip on the back that ranges between approx. ¼" to ½" deep which fits into the ductwork. The border that runs around that lip and sits on top of your opening is approx. 3/16" thick. Many of our square design grilles are made from 3/16" sheet aluminum or steel with no lip on the back.

Can your grilles be flush mounted into the floor?

Yes. All cast iron, brass, aluminum and steel grilles can be recessed into the floor but only during a new construction or modification of an existing hole. We recommend you wait to receive the grille then use it as its own template.

Do you make custom sizes?

We can and do make custom sizes especially in wood and in our square design steel grilles. Please contact us for a quote and production schedule. Custom sizes is our scroll design or in cast iron, or brass require the fabrication of custom patterns and molds which are very expensive to produce, anywhere for $3,000 to $5,000.

How do I order a custom size in wood and how long would it take?

Approximate delivery time for custom wood orders is 4-6 weeks. Please contact customer service at 1-800-880-3090 to tell us what size you need and what type of wood you are interested in.

How do the louvers attach to the grille?

Louvers do not attach directly to the grille. All louvers tension fit into your opening and come with a foam outer strip to prevent damage and ensure fit. You just push the louver into the boot of the duct and place the grille on top. The grille will sit on top of the opening but not connect to the louver. A key is included that fits through the face of the grille and allows flow adjustments.

Can your grilles be used as foundation vents?

Yes, our grilles can be used outside. We recommend the aluminum grilles for outdoor use because they are rustproof and fare better in moist environments.

Shipping

Although we are continually evaluating the cost and reliability of the vendors we use for shipping, currently UPS is our vendor for most packages. UPS charges are based on weight and distance from our location in Leominster, MA, but to simplify the calculation we do average the distance so everyone's rate is based primarily upon the package weight. UPS charges increase as the weight of the package increases. Unfortunately where the cost of shipping is concerned, our products are heavy. The weight of each individual product is shown on our site and in our catalog next to the S & H charge.

In addition to UPS shipping charges, we also package each item we sell individually wrapped to ensure that it arrives without scratches or dings of any sort. This costs money and time, but we believe it is essential that when you open the package the product looks every bit as good as it did when it left our facility. Finally we insure each package. All of this increases our costs above the simple freight charges from UPS.

Even in shipping, however, there are some economies of scale. For this reason we do offer discounts on shipping and handling for four or more items shipped at one time to a single address. (Our shipping discount schedule is published in our catalog and on the website.) We encourage you to take advantage of this savings whenever possible.

We certainly do realize that shipping and handling add to your overall cost and we continually look for ways to control those costs, but we also know that it is critical to you that your order arrive timely and without damage.

Return Policy

When you return a product, please repack it in the original shipping carton. No refunds are given on original shipping charges. We urge you to check sizes and measure accurately. All Returns after 30 days will be subject to a 15% Restocking Charge.
