For high-traffic floors, choose cast iron, cast aluminum, or 3/16” steel, which are made to handle full walking weight. 

For lower-traffic floors, you can also choose 1/8” steel or brass.  

Cast iron is our original material, made since 1978, and the heaviest option. Cast aluminum is lighter and rust-proof, so it's the better pick for bathrooms and other damp spots. Laser-cut steel comes in the widest range of modern patterns but isn't recommended for wet areas. 

For traditional and Victorian homes, start with Scroll, our most popular traditional pattern, or Imperial, Edison, or Versailles. For modern and contemporary rooms, try Square, Asher, Herringbone, or Chevron. Linear B, C, or D, Mosaic, Basketweave, Duncan, and Sunray blend traditional and modern for transitional spaces. For coastal homes, choose Sanibel or our Clodagh collection, inspired by Ireland's coastline: Shoreline, Pebbles, Driftwood, and Seafoam.

In most cases, yes. Each pattern in our Made to Order Collection is stocked in 32 or more sizes, so one pattern and finish can run through floors, toe kicks, walls, and ceilings across your home. If your duct opening isn't a stocked size, ask us about making it custom in your pattern.

Yes. Our aluminum and steel grilles come in
Black, Oil-Rubbed Bronze, Sun Gold, White, Silver, and Gray, and select patterns add Champagne Bronze and Satin Nickel. To match a wall or trim color, order Gray and paint it yourself. Use a paint made for metal, not latex, and start with a metal primer.

Yes. Our steel and aluminum grilles work on walls and ceilings as well as floors. Aluminum is the lighter choice for overhead spots, and it's rust-proof for bathrooms. Order your grille with mounting holes so you can screw it in place. Wall and ceiling grilles should always be secured mechanically, with screws or a frame. Construction adhesive like Liquid Nails alone isn't recommended.

They sit low. Depending on the material and thickness you select, the border that rests on your floor is 1/8” or 3/16” thick. 

Yes. Our cast iron, brass, aluminum, and steel grilles can be recessed so they sit level with the floor. This works during new construction or when you're modifying the existing opening, since the floor has to be cut to fit. Wait until your register arrives and use it as the template for the cut so the opening matches the actual grille.

Yes. If your opening doesn't match a stocked size, we make laser-cut steel, laser-cut aluminum, and solid brass registers to the nearest 1/16". Odd sizes are common in older homes, where duct openings are rarely standard. Measure the duct opening itself, not the old cover. Then request a quote on our Custom Registers page. Quotes come back within 24–48 business hours.

A well-fitted metal vent cover shouldn’t.
Rattling usually comes from movement: a cover that’s the wrong size or isn’t seated evenly, a loose louver, or a duct edge that vibrates against the register. Order the size of your duct opening, not your old cover, so the register sits snug. If one does rattle, reseat it, tighten the louver, or add thin foam weatherstrip around the opening.
